The world is going through one of the hardest struggles in it's modern history, the novel Coronavirus has until now infected about a million people in a span of 4 months, in addition to taking the lives of over 56 thousand.

Amid fears by citizens around the world today, "Contagion"  a 2011 movie about a pandemic with potentially deadly similarities to the recent COVID-19 has re-ignited it's flame as people re-watched or watched it for the first time hoping to find an indication on were the world is heading to.

Contagion is only one example of a recurring theme in movies associated with such an outbreak, other movies have recently predicted a similiar scenario like "The Omega Man," "World War Z" and "Pandemic." here is a list of some movies that predicted the current epidemic.

Outbreak (1995)

Outbreak is about a small town in California that becomes entirely quarantined when the residents fall victim to an Ebola-like virus that stems from Capuchin monkeys in Zaire. Most of the story focuses on the military and health personnel who are charged with containing and treating the infected citizens, but the movie also explores the extreme lengths that some organizations will go to in order to thwart a threat from spreading.

93 Days (2016)

Inspired by the real Ebola outbreak of 2014, 93 days centers around an epidemic in Nigeria and the effort to contain the disease before it makes its way into a major city with a population of 21 million. The film not only examines the efforts of the medical teams to prevent the virus from spreading, but it also focuses on the pressures they face from political entities and the general public.

Flu (2013)

Hailing from South Korea, this film is about a virus that spreads within Bundang and causes the city to become quarantined. The infected only have 36 hours to live. They also vomit blood.

Anarchy reigns as communication is cut off and riots break out. All of the hallmarks of a virus-themed disaster movie are present and accounted for, but Flu scores extra points for being very intense, crazily entertaining, and rife with political distrust.

“World War Z” (2013):

Pitt, who plays a former investigator for the United Nations, sets out to figure out a vaccine for the ailment, which ravages the United States and beyond.

“I Am Legend” (2009):

In a more extreme example of epidemic thrillers, the movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in which a genetically re-engineered vaccine yields dire results, killing the bulk of humanity and turning nearly everyone else into bloodthirsty mutants.

Will Smith stars as potentially the only uninfected person left on the planet who aims to find a cure and other humans who haven’t been killed or sickened.

Black Death (2010)

Perhaps the most extreme movie on the list, Black death centers around the most dangerous pandemic in history the Bubonic plague, which spawned in the 1300s and killed as many as 200 million people.

The story follows a band of puritans who set out to find a village that’s not only plague-free but where there have been reports of black magic being used to both to keep the disease away and also to resurrect the dead.

Carriers (2009)

Carriers stars Chris Pine  were the movie centers around a group of friends as they set out to find a plague-free zone and wait for things to get better.

However, on the way there, they encounter a man and his infected daughter, who subsequently spreads the disease to a member of the group. This is a slow, dramatic, and utterly bleak movie that should resonate with fans of The Road and films of that ilk.

Contagion (2011):

No one entered 2020 expecting Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion to be one of this year’s most talked-about movies. However, the world is experiencing a global pandemic that’s quite reminiscent of the disease in the movie, and people are turning to Contagion as their go-to stress-watch. Still, this is a great movie that mostly resists sensationalism for a more grounded take on life during a worldwide virus crisis. That’s one of the film’s scariest qualities as well, and watching it in the current climate is a guaranteed way to make your anxiety levels rise.
