Confucius Inst. Cairo Univ. Inaugurates Joint Chinese Language Program

Egypt and China have a strong relationship in many fields, especially education. The Confucius Institutes are spreading in Egyptian universities to strengthen mutual relations more effectively. The Confucius Institute at Cairo University is the most prominent of these universities where the joint international program of Chinese language for business administration was opened.

Dr. Muhammad Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, said: “This international program, which ranks 56th in the world is part of the development of bilateral relations between Egypt and China.”

“It aims to prepare graduates more able to respond to the requirements of the Egyptian, Arab and international labor market. Thus it will support linking the Belt and Road Initiative, launched by China, to Egypt's Vision 2030, which is actively involved in the development of the Suez Canal axis to achieve joint development of both countries."

Elkhosht stressed that Cairo University continues its strong alliances and partnerships with the most advanced universities in international rankings. It carried out scientific agreements and joint degrees with international universities from the top 100 universities in the world in many disciplines, such as Cornell and Monash University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Ahmed Al Sherbiny, Dean of the Faculty of Arts said: “The Program helps to empower graduates of the Faculty to work at the regional and international level, and opens up further prospects for cooperation with Shanghai University in the field of humanities.

Dr. Rehab Mahmoud pointed out that the International Program of Chinese Language for Business Administration will start in the new academic year 2019/2020. It aims to contribute to opening many fields and job opportunities for graduates who speak Chinese fluently and able to use in the framework of 2030, Belt and Road initiatives. The duration of the study is 4 years. It is important for potential candidates to pass student fourth level exam in the Chinese language to join the program.

Dr. Wu Jianfeng, undersecretary of the Faculty of Humanities at Shanghai Jiaotong University, stressed that the universities of Cairo and Shanghai Jiaotong are two of the most important universities in the world. He pointed out that both countries have a great history and distinguished relations with all countries of the world.

Two thousand international students from 40 countries aim to produce Chinese-speaking students globally able to find good job opportunities.
