The Colombian Football Federation has extended the contract of head coach Néstor Lorenzo following the national team's impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although the federation did not disclose the length of the new agreement, it confirmed on Thursday that its executive committee had approved the extension during a meeting in Bogotá.
Lorenzo, 60, was originally appointed in 2022 on a four-year deal.
The Argentine coach has overseen a successful spell with Colombia, recording 31 wins, 12 draws, and eight defeats in 51 matches. During that period, his side has scored 96 goals while conceding 44.
Colombia impressed at the World Cup by topping their group with victories over Uzbekistan (3-1) and DR Congo (1-0), before drawing 0-0 with Portugal.
They then defeated Ghana 1-0 in the Round of 32 to reach the last 16.
Their tournament came to an end against Switzerland after a goalless draw over 120 minutes, with Colombia losing 4-3 in the penalty shootout despite conceding just one goal throughout five matches.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Lorenzo said he remains committed to building on the team's recent progress.
"Now is the time to recharge and continue developing this project," Lorenzo told 365Scores. "We will keep building a stronger national team, maintaining our attacking style and pursuing clear objectives."
The Colombian coach also reflected on the heartbreaking World Cup exit.
"The penalties against Switzerland were the most painful moment because our World Cup dream came to an end," he said. "The team took the initiative in every match; we played with an ambitious, attacking mindset. We created more scoring chances than any of the opponents we faced."
Colombia are expected to return to international action in September, with their next opponent yet to be confirmed.
