Colombia booked their place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after grinding out a 1-0 win over DR Congo in their second Group Stage match.
The South American side secured qualification with a hard-fought performance, finally breaking the deadlock in the 76th minute through Daniel Muñoz after a frustrating evening in front of goal.
The result, however, did not fully reflect Colombia’s dominance. Muñoz and Luis Díaz both had goals ruled out during the match, with Colombia seeing three efforts disallowed in total before Muñoz eventually found the decisive breakthrough.
Despite the setbacks, Colombia maintained their attacking pressure and were ultimately rewarded with a victory that sends them into the knockout phase with a perfect six points from two matches.
DR Congo, meanwhile, remain on one point and now face a crucial final group game as they fight to keep their qualification hopes alive.
After earning a creditable draw against Portugal in their opening match, the African side entered the contest with confidence but struggled to contain Colombia’s persistent attacking threat.
With this win, Colombia move to the top of the group and continue to build momentum after their strong opening victory over Uzbekistan.
