Coco Gauff US Open Title Defense Campaign Ends in R4

Early Monday, US Open defending champion Coco Gauff was eliminated from the tournament.

Gauff, who carried the US flag in the opening of 2024 Paris Games, lost her fourth round game in the US Open tournament to Emma Navarro.

The worl'd third seed produced a disjointed performance to lose 6-3 4-6 6-3 to another American who is Navarro.

Gauff made19 double faults, including 11 in the third set alone.

Navarro said after the match: "I lost in the first round the last two years and now to be making the quarter-finals is pretty insane."

"This is the city I was born in and it feels so special to be playing here."

It is not the first time for Navarro to end the dreams of Gauff for a second grand slam title as she defeated her  two months ago in the last 16 at Wimbledon.

Navarro will face 26th seed Paula Badosa in the last eight after the Spaniard thrashed China’s Wang Yafan 6-1 6-2 earlier on Sunday.
