Australian authorities cancelled plans to allow medical teams battling Covid-19 to attend at Sydney Port to watch fireworks in celebration of New Year.

Traditionally, thousands of people were flocking to places where they can watch the fireworks being launched at midnight from the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

The idea of allowing about five thousand of health workers to attend at the venue of the port was ruled out due to concerns that the viral infection could spread significantly.

In an official statement, the City authorities recommended that the residents watch the fireworks display on television

The step was taken as the city is already witnessing a lockdown throughout January 9th.

Closure also imposed in several other cities around the world in their efforts to contain the outbreak of the pandemic.
