Shi Yuewen, the Minister counselor for cultural affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Cairo, wrote a song expressing his gratitude to Egypt.

Yuewen reflected on the ties of friendship, and the deep bonds between Egypt and China.

"Egypt expressed the quote that says "a friend in need is a friend indeed". he said.

Yuewen added: "Civilization supports the civilization that resembles it, and Egypt and China are among the oldest civilizations and most enrichment to humankind".

This comes after the Egyptian government recently light up three of Egypt's most important and most famous historical sites with the Chinese flag in solidarity of the government and people with China in its battle with the coronavirus pandemic that is spreading in China and around the world.

The lit-up landmarks included Salah El Din Al Ayouby Citadel in Cairo, the Karnak Temple in Luxor, and the Philae Temple in Aswan.

The gratitude song lyrics go as follows:

China and Egypt..

Hand in hand In every age .. history and glory

Greetings from the Great Wall

Pyramid and Nile expand and support

Above the antiquities they drew the flag

Supported China amidst its pain

The children of Isis and Osiris

Chanted to the dragon rise

Our path is silk

Our civilization is one

Despite the distance, we are close

Cairo is Beijing.
