Chinese speed skater Ning Zhongyan won a historic gold medal in the men’s 1,500 meters event at the 2026 Winter Olympics, marking China’s first Olympic title in the distance.
Ning finished ahead of American skater Jordan Stolz, who took silver, in one of the most competitive races of the speed skating program.
The Chinese athlete also secured bronze medals in the 1,000 meters and team pursuit events, making him one of China’s most successful speed skaters at the Winter Olympics.
Despite finishing second in the 1,500 meters, Stolz won gold medals in both the 500 meters and 1,000 meters events. Norway and Italy also claimed major titles in distance races, while the Netherlands dominated the overall speed skating competition.
The Dutch team topped the speed skating medal standings, underlining its long-standing strength in the sport.
