Zheng Zeguang, China's Ambassador to the United Kingdom, has been expelled from Parliament and has stated that he will be unable to enter the premises for a speech on September 15, 2021.

Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons, declared on Tuesday that it was "not appropriate" for Chinese. As China slaps penalties on seven British legislators for criticising Beijing's human rights record, Ambassador Zheng Zeguang is set to enter parliament. Zheng was slated to attend a reception in China hosted by the House of Commons' all-party caucus.

Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle met with the MPs sanctioned by China last week, who encouraged him to think about “the implications of the visit for all parliamentarians who need to be able to speak out as part of their duties in the democratic system we all cherish” in a letter.

The action comes after penalties were levied on Chinese officials by the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and the European Union over Xinjiang.

Sanctioned legislators applauded the prohibition, claiming that allowing Zheng into the premises would be an "insult."

Until the sanctions are lifted, Zheng Zeguang will be barred from entering the legislature.

The Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom criticised the action, saying it would be detrimental to both countries' interests.

According to the Chinese Embassy in London, Beijing's sanctions are ”beyond reproach because they are justified responses to the unilateral sanctions imposed by the British side on relevant Chinese inpiduals and entities based on disinformation and under the pretext of so-called human rights abuse in Xinjiang.”

“The despicable and cowardly action of certain inpiduals of the UK parliament to obstruct normal exchanges and cooperation between China and the UK for personal political gains is against the wishes, and harmful to the interests of, the peoples of both countries,” the embassy said.
