China's Permanent Representative to the UN Zhang Jun has called on Israel to end the blockade on the Gaza Strip and establish safe channels for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Speaking at a UN Security Council debate on the Middle East situation, Zhang emphasized the need to prevent a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He highlighted that Gaza has been without electricity for 15 days, with critical shortages of water, food, and medicine looming.

Zhang urged the Security Council to use unequivocal language in demanding that the occupying power, Israel, lift the Gaza siege, put an end to collective punishment against Gaza's people, and ensure the safe passage of aid.

The Chinese diplomat addressed the root causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, attributing it to the prolonged illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, the disregard for Palestinian rights to establish an independent state, and the inadequate protection of basic Palestinian rights.

He advocated for the two-state solution as the fundamental approach to achieving peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel.

In a unified call to action, Zhang implored the Security Council to act responsibly and urgently, urging them to send a resounding message.

He stressed that the Security Council should demand an immediate ceasefire using clear and unambiguous language.

He warned that if the conflict in Gaza persists or escalates, it will result in a regional disaster affecting all parties involved.

The renewed tensions in the Middle East began on October 7 when Hamas militants from Gaza launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory in response to Israeli actions near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City.

Israel, in retaliation, imposed a complete blockade on Gaza, conducted airstrikes on the enclave, as well as certain regions in Lebanon and Syria.
