China's Permanent Representative to United Nations (UN), Fu Cong, called on the international community to take necessary actions to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to prevent a larger catastrophe in the Middle East.
"China calls on all parties to exercise restraint and to cease any actions that would escalate tensions in the region," Chinese envoy said in his speech before UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East,accroding to 'Xinhua' news agency.
"China urges Israel to immediately stop its military operations in Gaza and end the collective punishment of the people of Gaza," he added, holding the Israeli occupation responsible for protecting humanitarian workers and facilitating the safe delivery of aid in accordance with international humanitarian law.
