On Thursday, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said in a press briefing that his country strongly condemns the burning of the Quran and opposes any form of Islamophobia.

The spokesperson stressed that China has always opposed any form of Islamophobia.

On its part, China supports the motion at the United Nations Human Rights Council in the wake of the Quran burning in Sweden, according to Chinese envoy at the UN Chen Xu.

China has always advocated mutual respect and understanding among different civilizations and firmly opposes all forms of "Islamophobia".

The so-called freedom of expression should not be used as a justification for inciting a clash of civilizations.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution condemning the burning of the Koran and other holy books, and calling on countries to take legal steps to prosecute the perpetrators of such acts.

Of the 47 countries, 12 voted against the resolution, namely Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Romania, Britain, the United States, and Costa Rica.
