China Reinforces Lebanon’s Political, Economic Progress

Chinese envoy Zhang Jun called for exerting international efforts to help Lebanon make progress in the fields of politics, economy and security.

“The Aug. 4 huge blast in the port of Beirut has brought tremendous pain to the Lebanese people," Zhang , China's permanent representative to the United Nations said.

"The consequences of the blast, COVID-19 and regional instability are posing enormous challenges to Lebanon's socio-economic development.”

In his remarks during an online ministerial meeting of the International Support Groups for Lebanon, Zhang called for efforts to create appropriate conditions for sake of the political process there.

“The international community should create a suitable atmosphere for comprehensive dialogue, and respect the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence,” Zhang added. “The support groups should take a neutral and balanced stance, and play a constructive role.”

He also called for efforts to promote economic development and improve the standard of living there.

He also made clear that the international community should fulfill its obligations to provide assistance to Lebanon in its efforts to rebuild and fight the spread of (Covid-19).

The Chinese envoy stated that China has always been supportive for the country in its efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and security and promote social and economic development.

China is ready to cooperate with the international support groups to contribute to its reconstruction, peace, stability and development.
