China has confirmed its absence from the upcoming Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland, set for mid-June, Reuters reports.
Beijing declined the invitation, citing unmet conditions, including Russia's participation.
Chinese diplomats conveyed earlier this week that the conference should be recognized by both Moscow and Kyiv and feature equal participation and fair discussion of all proposals.
The conference, scheduled for June 15-16 at the Burgenstock Resort, will host over 160 delegations, including members from the G7, G20, and BRICS nations, according to the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
Russia was not invited, as confirmed by Swiss authorities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would not seek an invitation if not welcomed. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov labeled the conference "a path to nowhere," expressing skepticism about the West's willingness for an honest dialogue.
