Notwithstanding Taipei's claims that Beijing had informed it that a no-fly zone will be implemented on Sunday over the waters north of Taiwan, China rejected this on Friday.
According to Taiwan's transport ministry, Beijing initially informed Taipei that it would impose a no-fly zone from April 16–18, but then claimed that after Taipei objected, the period had been cut to just 27 minutes on Sunday morning.
Nevertheless, in comments made during a routine media conference, China's spokesperson for the foreign ministry Wang Wenbin appeared to dispute that assertion.
