In a firm diplomatic move, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for an immediate halt to ongoing military operations in the region, emphasizing the urgent need to protect the sovereignty and security of Iran and the Gulf states.
Citing reports from Reuters, the Foreign Minister underscored that stability in the Middle East is non-negotiable. "The sovereignty and security of Iran and the Gulf countries must be respected," Wang Yi stated. He further noted that efforts to incite instability or pursue regime change in Iran lack popular support and risk plunging the region into a deeper cycle of violence.
The call for a ceasefire comes as Beijing expresses growing concern over the potential for the conflict to broaden. China has consistently advocated for a "red line" regarding the protection of civilian lives and the safeguarding of critical infrastructure, including energy and maritime shipping lanes.
Beijing’s diplomatic push includes the dispatch of a special envoy to the Middle East to mediate and facilitate a return to dialogue. Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated that the use of force is an unacceptable solution to regional disputes and urged all parties to return to the negotiating table to ensure long-term peace and stability.
