Chinese authorities have brought under control a forest fire that burned for nearly two days in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, according to official statements released on Sunday.

The fire broke out at 4:51 p.m. local time on Friday in Jiasheng Village, located in Nujiang Prefecture.

Local authorities swiftly mobilized 326 personnel to combat the blaze, including teams from forestry and grassland departments as well as firefighting units.

According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, by 10:00 p.m. on Saturday the fire line had extended to approximately 600 meters, affecting an area of around 600 mu, equivalent to about 40 hectares.

Officials noted that the affected area is remote and not close to residential communities or critical infrastructure, reducing the risk to lives and property.

However, firefighting efforts were complicated by the area’s rugged terrain, steep cliffs and difficult access, which posed significant challenges to containment operations.

Authorities confirmed that the fire has now been brought under control, while monitoring continues to prevent any potential flare-ups.
