Zhu Fenglian, the representative of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, emphasized the necessity for the United States to cease arming Taiwan.
Speaking at a press conference regarding the approval of the US Senate for the Taiwan Assurance Act, Zhu stated that the United States should take concrete actions to fulfill its commitment to not supporting Taiwan's independence and to stop arming the island in any form.
She pointed out that the bill seriously violates the principle of "One China" and the three joint communiques between China and the United States, sending a signal to separatist forces advocating for Taiwan's independence.
Fenglian reiterated that Taiwan's issue is an internal matter for China and that Beijing does not tolerate any external interference.
According to her, the majority of the Taiwanese people desire peace, development, and cooperation, not war, stagnation, division, or confrontation.
She noted that the ruling party in Taiwan ignores public opinion and is willing to become a pawn of external forces to contain China, stressing that any attempts by separatists to achieve independence by force or relying on external forces are doomed to fail.
Earlier, the US Senate approved a package of legislation related to aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, in addition to seizing Russian assets.
Following the final approval by the Senate, the package will go to US President Joe Biden for signing, who has pledged to sign it.
