Chelsea FC have made their stance clear regarding the future of club captain Enzo Fernandez, insisting the midfielder will only be sold if their £130 million valuation is met amid mounting interest from Real Madrid.
With speculation intensifying and contract discussions currently stalled, the Premier League side are preparing for a potential summer battle to retain one of their most influential players.
Chelsea are unwilling to consider any offers below £130 million for Fernandez, a figure that significantly exceeds the £106.8 million they paid Benfica to secure his services in January 2023.
Despite uncertainty surrounding his future, the club have not abandoned hopes of extending his contract.
Fernandez remains tied to a long-term deal running until 2032, placing Chelsea in a strong negotiating position regardless of external interest.
However, the situation has grown more complex in recent weeks. The Argentine international has publicly admitted he would “like” to live in Madrid, while comments from his partner have further fuelled speculation about a possible move to Spain.
Questions over Fernandez’s future come at a challenging time for Chelsea, following a heavy defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit suggested the 23-year-old appears “tired” of the ongoing project at Stamford Bridge, casting doubt over his long-term commitment.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that no new contract negotiations have begun, leaving the door slightly ajar for interested clubs.
Despite the uncertainty, Fernandez’s on-field contributions remain vital. He has registered 12 goals and six assists in 46 appearances this season, underlining his importance to the squad.
Whether Chelsea can persuade their captain to stay or are ultimately forced into a record-breaking sale is shaping up to be one of the defining narratives of the upcoming summer transfer window.
