Chelsea have completed the signing of England forward Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a record-breaking £117 million deal, making the 23-year-old the most expensive British player in football history.
The Stamford Bridge club confirmed that Rogers has signed a seven-year contract, surpassing the previous British transfer record set earlier this summer when Elliot Anderson joined Manchester City for £116 million.
Speaking after completing the move, Rogers expressed his excitement about joining the West London club and working under new head coach Xabi Alonso.
"I'm so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I've always admired since I was a kid," Rogers said. "I'm really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we've got and where the club is heading. That's why I'm here and I can't wait to get started."

The England international also revealed that conversations with Alonso played a decisive role in his decision.
"I've had a few conversations with him, and it was important for me to understand how he wants to play and how he wants to operate. It fits the way I see football and how I want to express myself on the pitch. Him being part of the project was a massive factor in me coming here."
Rogers will also reunite with close friend and former Manchester City academy teammate Cole Palmer, a prospect he described as one of the most exciting aspects of the transfer.

"I've known Cole since I was about 14, first with England youth teams and then at Manchester City. We've spoken about playing together for a long time. He's been ringing and texting me non-stop. Playing alongside one of your best friends every day is something I'm really looking forward to."

Arsenal had previously identified Rogers as their top attacking target this summer but were unwilling to match Chelsea's record-breaking offer.
The forward leaves Aston Villa despite the club qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, opting instead to join Chelsea as the Blues prepare for the 2026-27 campaign without European football.
Chelsea's ability to finance another blockbuster signing has largely been made possible through significant player sales this summer.
The club has reportedly generated around £130 million through departures, with additional high-profile exits expected before the transfer window closes as the Blues continue to balance their spending under UEFA's financial regulations.
