Chelsea have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign England international Morgan Rogers in a club-record deal worth £117 million, making him the most expensive signing in the Blues' history and the costliest English player ever.

The 23-year-old midfielder is set to sign a six-year contract, with the option of an additional year, after completing a medical on Monday following his return from England's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The transfer surpasses Chelsea's previous record of £107 million, paid for Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez in 2023, while also eclipsing the £116 million deal that saw Elliot Anderson move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City earlier this summer.

Rogers joins Chelsea as new head coach Xabi Alonso continues reshaping the squad ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

The England midfielder arrived at Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for an initial £8 million, with the deal rising to £15 million through add-ons.

Villa's remarkable profit on the transfer also benefits Middlesbrough, who included a 20 percent sell-on clause in the original agreement.

The Championship club is expected to receive at least £20.4 million, which is believed to be the largest sell-on payment involving an English club.

During his two-and-a-half seasons at Villa Park, Rogers established himself as one of the Premier League's standout attacking midfielders.

He scored 21 league goals in 85 appearances and played a key role in Aston Villa's successful Europa League-winning campaign last season.

On the international stage, Rogers has earned 22 England caps, scoring once, and featured in all seven matches during England's run to a third-place finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
