On Tuesday, English Premier League side Chelsea advanced to the final of the newly expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Brazilian club Fluminense.
The semi-final clash took place at MetLife Stadium in New York, as part of the tournament currently being held in the US.
The first goal came in the 18th minute of the first half, scored by Brazilian forward João Pedro with a powerful strike from outside the box. Out of respect, he chose not to celebrate against his former club.
In the second half, João Pedro struck again in the 56th minute, sealing the win and sending the Blues to the final.
Chelsea will face the winner of Wednesday’s semi-final between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
The final is scheduled to take place on July 13 at MetLife Stadium.
Chelsea have now made history as the first European club to reach the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in its modern, expanded format.
Fluminense became the third Brazilian team Chelsea faced in this tournament, after Flamengo and Palmeiras in the quarter-finals.
