Ramzan Kadyrov, the controversial leader of Russia's Chechen Republic, was rescued from a near-drowning incident while vacationing at a luxury resort on Turkey’s Aegean coast, according to a report by European broadcaster Euronews on Friday.
The incident occurred at a five-star hotel in the Kainar area of Bodrum, a popular destination in Muğla Province. Kadyrov, 48, reportedly lost consciousness shortly after entering the water for a swim.
Turkish media outlets said members of the Turkish Coast Guard, along with hotel staff, quickly noticed Kadyrov’s distress and rushed to his aid. Emergency first aid was administered on-site before he was transported to a private clinic nearby.
Medical personnel later confirmed that Kadyrov's condition had stabilized and there was no immediate threat to his life. No official statement has yet been issued by Chechen or Russian authorities.
The cause of Kadyrov’s sudden collapse remains unclear.

Kadyrov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, inherited power from his father, Akhmad Kadyrov, a former separatist-turned-Kremlin loyalist who was assassinated in 2004. Known for his iron-fisted rule and deep involvement in Moscow’s military campaigns, including the war in Ukraine, Kadyrov remains one of the most polarizing figures in post-Soviet politics.
The unexpected health scare comes amid growing international scrutiny of Kadyrov, whose name has frequently appeared in human rights reports for alleged abuses in Chechnya.
Further updates are expected as Turkish authorities and Chechen officials assess the circumstances of the incident.
