CAPMAS: 14.2% Increase of Students in Private Universities in 2018-19 Academic Year

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics "CAPMAS" released the annual bulletin for enrolled students and faculty members in higher education for the academic year 2018/2019.

The indicators as follows: 3.104 million students enrolled in higher education for the academic year 2018/2019 compared to 2.985 million students in 2017/2018, an increase of 4%.

2.263 million students enrolled in Governmental and Al-Azhar universities, representing 72.9% of the total higher education students in 2018/2019, compared to 2.212 million students in 2017/2018- an increase of 2.3%; 28 universities contain 513 faculties, with 278 theoretical faculty having 1.756 million students by 77.6%, 235 practical colleges having 507, 000 students or 22.4% of the total universities. This item contains 101, 000 faculty members and associate at public universities and Al-Azhar in 2018/2019.

As for private universities, 195, 000 students enrolled in private universities, representing 6.3% of the total students of higher education in 2018/2019, compared to 170, 000 students in 2017/2018- an increase of 14.2%.

The rate of number of students in private universities reached 25.9% and the total number of faculty members and associate in private universities in 2018/2019 reached 10.7, 000.

In private higher institutes, there are 440, 000 students enrolled in private higher institutes, representing 14.1% of the total students of higher education in 2018/2019, compared to 404,000 students in 2017/18, an increase 9%, a total of 9242 faculty members in private higher institutes in 2018/2019.

As for the academies, there are 33.2, 000 students enrolled in the academies, representing 1.1% of the total higher education students in 2018/2019, compared to 31.2, 000 students in 2017/2018, an increase 6.5%.

Finally, the various institutes 25.7, 000 students enrolled in various private institutes, representing 0.8% of the total students of higher education in 2018/2019, compared to 35.8, 000 students in 2017/2018- a decrease of 28%, with a total of 454 faculty members at various private institutes in 2018/2019.
