CAPMAS: 1239 Vessels Transmit Suez Canal in 2020

The number of vessels transiting the Suez Canal Authority reached about 1239 vessels, compared to 1140 ships in November 2019, with an increase of about 99 ships, according to Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

CAPMAS said that the value of the Suez Canal Authority's revenues last November amounted to about EGP 7.7 billion last November, which is the same as in November 2019. The tonnage of ships reached about 100 million tons last November, compared to 101 million tons in the same month in 2019, a slight decrease of one million tons.

During 10 years, value of the Suez Canal revenues reached EGP 575.2 billion. In 2018/2019, it recorded EGP 100.8 billion, an increase of 1.7% over the year 2017/2018. During the fiscal year 2019/2020, it recorded EGP 91.7 billion , a decrease of -9% compared to the previous year.

During the fiscal year 2019/2020, the average value of the revenues of the Suez Canal per a minute was EGP 176.9 thousand. The net tonnage of ships crossing the canal was 2.3 thousand tons, and the number of vessels transiting it recorded a vessel every 25 minutes, according to CAPMAS.

As for the net tonnage of ships transiting the Suez Canal, it reached a total of 10.1 billion tons during the 10 years. It recorded 897 million tons during the fiscal year 2010/2011, compared to 939 million tons during the year 2011/2012, an increase of 4.7%.
