FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick spoke to the media ahead of his side’s league clash against Racing de Santander, providing updates on the squad and offering encouraging news for Barça fans regarding João Cancelo.
Flick confirmed that the Portuguese full-back is fit and could make his debut imminently, hinting at possible minutes in the upcoming match.
The German coach highlighted Cancelo’s versatility and attacking influence, stressing that his profile fits perfectly into Barcelona’s tactical plans.
“Joao is fantastic and can give us a lot, also in attack, in the final third to get past the opponent,” Flick explained. The coach underlined that Cancelo’s ability to contribute offensively will add creativity, depth, and new tactical solutions to the team.
The press conference also touched on the recent departure of Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid. Flick avoided controversy and instead expressed respect and admiration for the Spanish coach.
“It’s football, it’s not my business. I can only say that I have a good relationship with Xabi. We met in Leverkusen and have stayed in touch,” Flick said.
He concluded by wishing Alonso well in his next chapter, praising his potential:
“He’s a great coach with a promising future, and I’m sure he’ll soon have a good project.”
Barcelona now turn their full focus to the upcoming league fixture, with fans eagerly anticipating Cancelo’s first appearance in Blaugrana colors.
