Canada midfielder Ismaël Koné suffered a broken foot during his side’s FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage match against Qatar after a reckless challenge from Qatar’s Asim Madibo forced a lengthy stoppage in play.
The incident occurred in the 51st minute at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, with Madibo shown a straight red card as medical staff rushed onto the field to treat the injured Canadian before he was stretchered off.
The dismissal marked Qatar’s second red card of the match after Homam Al Amin had already been sent off, leaving the Gulf nation with just nine players on the field.
At the time of the incident, Canada held a commanding four-goal lead and looked on course for a historic World Cup victory, while Qatar’s hopes of staying alive in the tournament suffered another major setback.
