Canada has pledged a major new package of economic assistance for Ukraine, committing an additional 2.5 billion US dollars to support Kyiv’s financial stability as the war with Russia continues.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the pledge on Saturday during a joint appearance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Halifax. He said the funding would help Ukraine secure critical financing through the International Monetary Fund and reinforce international efforts to stabilize the country’s economy.
The new support underscores Ottawa’s continued backing of Ukraine amid prolonged conflict and economic strain. Canadian officials say the assistance is aimed at strengthening public finances, sustaining essential government services, and supporting long-term economic resilience.
Canada has been one of Ukraine’s most consistent Western supporters since the start of the war, providing financial aid, military assistance, and humanitarian support. T
he latest pledge adds to billions of dollars already committed by Ottawa and aligns with broader international efforts to help Ukraine maintain macroeconomic stability while pursuing a durable and just peace.
