Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair has expressed opposition to deploying NATO forces in Ukraine but supports establishing a special mission for the alliance in the country. Speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington on Monday, Blair noted that the NATO mission need not necessarily be on Ukrainian soil, citing several associated challenges.

"There have been discussions about whether we would deploy troops in Ukraine, but frankly, the conditions would have to be vastly different from what we are seeing today," Blair stated.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski recently called for a joint NATO mission in Ukraine, clarifying that this does not imply NATO's involvement in the conflict within Ukraine. Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron mentioned the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine, but many countries, including the United States, have opposed this idea and confirmed that they would not send forces to Ukrainian territory.
