The Canadian Foreign Minister, Mélanie Joly, has announced a suspension of arms exports to Israel, following a non-binding decision by the House of Commons, reported the Canadian newspaper "The Star." In the last three months of the previous year, Canada exported weapons worth CAD 28.5 million to Israel, according to foreign media sources.

"The Trudeau government will halt future arms exports to Israel, despite the House of Commons' proposal on Monday calling for such action being non-binding," added "The Star," quoting Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.

In earlier statements, Minister Joly emphasized Canada's continued support for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine but indicated no imminent changes to its foreign policy following demands by the New Democratic Party (NDP) for the "formal recognition" of the State of Palestine.

Joly defended the government's response to the conflict in Gaza, which has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, while Members of Parliament debated an NDP proposal urging the Liberals to recognize the Palestinian state.

She further stated that working towards a path to lasting peace was a priority on her agenda during her recent trip to the region.
