Cairo To Open Longest Subway in Africa, ME

Cairo is preparing to open the largest subway station in Africa and the Middle East, transporting around 3 million citizens through 167 thousand trips daily.

Following its completion, the third line will become the longest and most advanced Metro line in the MENA region. It is the first transit line in Egypt at a cost of EGP 100 billion and a length of 48 km.

Phase 4-1 from Al-Ahram to El-Shams Club was inaugurated last June, including Haroun - Alf Maskan - El-Shams Club, except for Heliopolis Square station.

Final preparations for the inauguration of Nozha and Hisham Barakat stations are underway next December.

Quba, Omar ibn Al-Khattab, Hikestep, and Adly Mansour stations will be ready to receive passengers by April 2020, while Naser, Maspero, Zamalek and Kit Kat stations are scheduled for December 2021.

Moreover, the stations of Sudan, Imbaba, Al-Bohy, El-Kawmia El-Arabia, and Al Dairi will operate on June 2022, and Tawfiqia, Wadi Al Nile, Gamaet Al Dowal, Bulaq and Cairo University in April 2023.

It is worth mentioning that the third line will be connected to the monorail line of the new administrative capital through "stadium" station and will be linked to El-Asher electric locomotive through the "Adly Mansour" station.

Passengers will also be able to reach Giza, New Cairo, Ain Sokhna, 6th of October, Alexandria and as far as the new Alamein after linking the new line with "Rod El-Farag" station.
