On Tuesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that Cairo will host an in-depth dialogue between Palestinian factions on forthcoming elections.

During a meeting held by the Fatah Revolutionary Council members, Abbas said that Egypt has taken over the responsibility for the Palestinian reconciliation since 2007.

He also praised the major role played by 'Jordan, Qatar, Syria, Turkey, and even Russia' in supporting reconciliation and elections.

“We will go to Cairo with our hearts open to all proposals,” Abbas said, hoping to reach a binding agreement among all Palestinian factions.

Moreover, he added the United Nations (UN) hailed the decision to hold Palestinian elections, noting, “it is a very important step to establish and consolidate the national character, rights, and unity."

The Palestinian president also pointed out that the upcoming elections will take place in the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank.

Earlier this month, Abbas announced the first Palestinian elections in more than 15 years. The parliamentary elections will be held on May 22, followed by a presidential vote on July 31.

Then, the voters would go to the polls once again on August 31 to elect the National Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which represents Palestinians internationally.
