Cairo Streets Witness Tight Security on 'Sham El-Nessim' (Photos)

Cairo streets, corniche roads, and public squares are witnessing on Monday an intensive security spread in coinciding with Sham El-Nessim celebrations.

This comes as a part of the government efforts to prevent gatherings, and crowds, in a bid to curb the spread of emerging Coronavirus.

On Thursday, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli announced the full closure of public gardens, beaches and any other place that can have large gatherings, and the halt of all public transportation including (Metro, trains, buses) on Monday which marks Sham El-Nessim holiday.

The Egyptian Premier wished Egyptians happy Easter holiday, urging them to avoid gatherings and social celebrations.

The government also decided to fine the violators of Sham el Nessim’s precautionary measures with EGP 4,000.

Sham El-Nessim is a national holiday dating back to Ancient Egypt and often sees Egyptians gathering in public spaces for picnics.

Covid-19 Cases in Egypt

Egypt has so far registered 3032 coronavirus cases, including 224 deaths.

Egypt's Health Ministry has stepped up precautionary measures in the affected governorates and intensified campaigns to spread awareness about infectious diseases.

The WHO official urged all the people to follow protective measures and stay at home to protect themselves and their loved ones against the disease.

The Egyptian government took gradual measures to curb the spread of the virus, including the closure of schools and universities and prevent crowds.
