Cairo Opera House to Host Akhenaten's Show Late January

The final rehearsals of Akhenaten..Dust of Light's show  are currently conducted by international theater director Walid Awni, accompanied by the modern theater dance troupe. It is expected to be shown on January 29 and 30, in Grand Theater at the Cairo Opera House.

“I was looking about a figure who represented light in a spiritual and inspiring way for my new show, until I chose Akhenaten, the exceptional Pharaonic king from the eighteenth family; he is known as the 1st person in history calling for monotheism, and this affected so far despite his short rule time,” Awni said.

The show revolves around his life and family formation with his mother Queen T, Father Amenhotep III, the wife Nefertiti. This in addition to his psychological torment in his perfection pursuit and his war against religion exploitation in politics and his own suppression as a king by the Amun priests until his death.

The show also includes the destruction of Tel Amarna temples and Akheatatoun city, which witnessed his new religion.

Noteworthy, Awni is a Lebanese dancer, director and choreographer who founded the National Modern and Contemporary Dance Ensemble in Egypt, commissioned by former Culture Minister, artist Farouk Hosni.

He presented more than 30 dance show during his career as the band’s director until 2012, when he was forced to resign in light of Egypt’s events; however, he continued to work afterwards as a dance designer and director.

His last shows focus on Iraqi international architecture "zaha haded".

Also, he received many honors, including Medal of Honor in Art and Literature from France, Legion of Honor with the rank of Knight from Lebanon in 1992, and the Egyptian Armed Forces Shield in 1991.

He was also awarded Arts Medal of Honor from Fine Arts Faculty, Medal of Honor from Helwan University; he also won many awards at the Festival Cairo for the experimental and contemporary theater from 1995 to 2002. In 2017 he was appointed artistic advisor to the museum of "Maurice Bijger" the graet dance designer and director in Belgium.
