The Christmas Week spirit is alive and well at Cairo Opera House, where two longtime holiday events offer up the brightest sights and sounds of the season.

Set against a backdrop of beautiful Christmas decor, the annual celebrations features performances of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Ahmed al-Saidy at 8 pm, on Saturday 24.

The Cairo Opera House's celebrations also include the Nutcracker ballet by Cairo Opera's ballet company.

The beautiful fairy tale, which is usually performed around Christmas time, that is set to Tchaikovsky's music is suitable for the whole family to enjoy.

The ballet will continue being performed daily until Dec.30, welcoming New Year’s.

It's worth mentioning that the story of the Nutcracker ballet is based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann fantasy story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", which is about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King.
