Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels has confirmed that the first phase of Cairo Metro Line 4 is scheduled to open in mid-2028, as construction progresses according to plan.
Chairman Tarek El-Gewaily announced the completion of work by the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) involved in the project, marking a key milestone in the development of one of Cairo’s largest transport expansions. The project relies on six TBMs, four of which have already begun operations, while the first machine has completed its assigned tasks.
Construction activity is set to continue at pace in the coming months. Another machine is expected to complete its work by mid-June, while a TBM operated by Arab Contractors is scheduled to finish by mid-August after completing its excavation duties.
The first phase of Metro Line 4 will run from Hadayek Al-Ashgar in 6 October City, passing through Hadayek Al-Ahram, Al-Nasr Station, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and Al-Remaya Square. The route is designed to serve the Giza Pyramids area and connect it to Cairo’s expanding modern mass transit network.
