The Misr Public Library in Dokki recently marked a milestone in international cultural exchange with the grand opening of "From Hieroglyphs to Cartoons."

As the first-ever joint exhibition to unite caricature artists from both Egypt and Slovakia, the landmark event drew a distinguished crowd of diplomats, artists, and media professionals, highlighting the flourishing creative bonds between the two nations.

The exhibition was officially inaugurated by H.E. Lenka Miháliková, Ambassador of Slovakia to Cairo, alongside Ambassador Reda El-Taify, Director of the Misr Public Libraries Fund, and artist Mostafa El Sheikh, President of the Egyptian Caricature Association.

They were joined by Mr. Peter Rázus, President of the PRERAG Association, and artist Fawzy Morsy, Secretary General of the Egyptian Caricature Association.

The opening ceremony also welcomed an elite group of international dignitaries, including the ambassadors of Ukraine, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Norway, and Slovenia, alongside numerous journalists and cultural figures from both countries.

The exhibition showcases a diverse collection of roughly 80 caricature artworks crafted by 37 talented individuals. The cross-cultural display features 56 pieces submitted by 14 Slovak artists, running alongside a vibrant selection of works from 23 Egyptian artists. Together, they offer visitors a unique visual experience that masterfully bridges historical cultural heritage with the sharp wit of modern caricature.

Enriching the exhibition's program was an interactive artistic workshop titled "The Meaning of Cartoon in Slovakia." The session brought together professional Egyptian and Slovak cartoonists, students, and art enthusiasts, providing a collaborative space to delve into the symbolic depths of caricature and encouraging participants to express critical social commentary through creative drawing.

This cultural milestone was brought to life through a bilateral cooperation framework sponsored by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Cairo, in direct collaboration with the Gallery of Brain Sneezing in Prešov, the Egyptian Caricature Association, and the Misr Public Library.

"From Hieroglyphs to Cartoons" will remain open to the public until May 27, 2026, at the Misr Public Library in Dokki. The event serves as a testament to ongoing global efforts to foster intercultural communication and celebrate caricature as a vital visual art form for addressing universal human and social issues.
