Cairo Days for Film Industry Explores Laws of Creativity in Film Narrative

The Cairo Days for Film Industry will host a range of cinematographic activities, as part of its activities at the 41st edition of the Cairo International Film Festival.

The activities will range from panel discussions, lectures and dialogues given by international experts who will address narrative, cinematic narrative and the turn of fiction into reality.

In a panel discussion titled "Imagination Becomes Reality," experts examine closely the journey from the pages of a novel to its visual adaption and review the creative and practical challenges associated with filming the story rather than narrating it.

The panel discussion will take place on November 23, at 03:00 PM (Cairo local time), and will last for an hour at the Cleopatra Hall at the Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel.

It is scheduled for Egyptian author and screenwriter Ahmed Murad, founder and general manager of DKL Studio, Fadi Ismail, producer Paul Miller (The Foundry company), to take part in it.

The panel discussion will be moderated by the Arab Cinema Center and by film analyst Alaa Karkouti, the CEO and co-founder of MAD Solutions.

For the first time, Egyptian, Arab and public filmmakers will have the opportunity to participate in a lecture by award-winning writer, screenwriter, and Oscar nominee Jerome Ariaga, titled “linear, non-linear and multi-line narratives”.

It will be held at the El-Hanager Theater in the Egyptian Opera House, on Monday, November 26, at 2 PM (Cairo local time), and will last for 3 hours with a 30-minute break.

Ariaga will delve deeper into his lecture at the core of his world-renowned script mastery, as well as the non-linear, linear and multi-threaded narratives.

 

 

Moreover, Academy Award winner for his screenplay of film Traffic, American director, screenwriter, and Cairo Festival jury chairman Stephen Gaghan, will join CIFF President Mohamed Hefzi in a special discussion titled, "How to tell personal stories in the age of movie franchises?"

It will be hosted at El-Hanager Theater, on November 23, at 1:30 PM (Cairo local time), and will last for an hour.

The discussion digs deeply into the Hollywood studio system, point of view a filmmaker, and answers questions associated with what is needed to maintain the deep inpidual relationship with the artist's work, be it a director or a writer, regardless of the budget, genre and commercial expectations.

The second edition of Cairo Days for the Film Industry (CFC), runs from November (21 -26), is a platform launched during the  CIFF41st edition in partnership with the Arab Cinema Center.

CFC provides professionals with opportunities for partnership and networking with the international film community, to provide greater support to Arab cinema.

It will also hold seminars, workshops, discussion panels, meetings, and training workshops.
