The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco after ruling that Senegal forfeited the final match with a 3–0 loss.
CAF’s Appeals Committee announced Tuesday that Senegal is to be considered officially defeated following a review of the case under Articles 82 and 84 of the competition’s regulations. The ruling upheld a complaint filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), concluding that Senegal’s conduct during the final constituted a breach of the tournament rules.
As a result, Morocco has been declared the official winner of AFCON 2025 in a landmark decision that reshapes the outcome of the tournament.
The Appeals Committee also overturned a previous ruling by the Disciplinary Committee and introduced amendments to several sanctions affecting both teams.
Moroccan player Ismael Saibari saw his suspension reduced to two matches, while a previously imposed $100,000 fine was lifted. In addition, financial penalties imposed on the Moroccan federation were partially reduced in relation to incidents during the match, including the use of laser pointers and issues involving ball assistants.
However, CAF confirmed a $100,000 fine linked to matters concerning VAR-related interventions during the game.
