The Egyptian government has announced a major restructuring of state-owned economic entities, including the liquidation and cancellation of four economic authorities, the merger of seven others, and the conversion of nine entities into public service bodies.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting on Monday to review progress on improving the performance and governance of economic authorities. The meeting was attended by Rania Al-Mashat, along with senior officials involved in the reform process.

Madbouly said the government has established a dedicated committee for the reform and restructuring of economic authorities, tasked with assessing the challenges facing each entity and developing tailored restructuring plans to ensure financial sustainability and effective performance. He noted that a comprehensive review of all economic authorities has already been completed, and follow-up meetings with their leadership will be held to finalize reform roadmaps.

The prime minister stressed the importance of the National Media Authority, highlighting its role in strengthening public awareness, promoting national identity, and supporting social and cultural development. He affirmed the government’s readiness to provide full support to help the authority regain its leading role, while keeping pace with modern developments in the media sector.

Al-Mashat explained that the reform committee is responsible for comprehensive structural reform of economic authorities, with the aim of making optimal use of state assets, addressing long-standing challenges, improving efficiency, and increasing their contribution to the national economy. She emphasized that restructuring these entities is a top government priority as part of broader economic reform efforts.
