The Egyptian government, through the Cabinet Media Center, denied issuing a new 50-pound polymer banknote, after designs and pictures of it were circulated on some websites and social media pages.
The Media Center explained - in a statement Friday - that it contacted the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), which denied the news, stressing that there is no truth to the circulating design of the new 50-pound plastic currency.
CBE stressed that all the designs circulating are fabricated and not issued by the bank, explaining that any launch of new polymer currencies will be officially announced.
It pointed out that the polymer notes that were printed and put on the market are in denominations of 10 and 20 pounds only, without any other denominations having been issued or printed so far.
It appealed to citizens not to be led by this fake news, while obtaining information from Its official sources.
