US pop singer Britney Spears announced Saturday on Instagram she had suffered a miscarriage, a month after revealing her pregnancy.
The acclaimed singer shared with her followers that she and her fiancé Sam Asghari had lost their miracle baby.
"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy," she said in a statement.
"This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along, however, we were overly excited to share the good news. Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family." Spears continued.
It comes less than a year after the pop star was freed from a legal arrangement that gave her father control over many aspects of her life, including her reproductive health.
The 40-year-old, who has two teenage sons from her ex-husband Kevin Federline, shared in court how she wanted more kids, but that her conservatorship forced her to be on birth control.
In April, Spears announced her pregnancy and shared it would probably be "hard" as she had previously experienced perinatal depression - the medical term for a depression that occurs during or after pregnancy.
