British University in Egypt to Celebrate Inauguration of Professor Mohamed Lotfi

The British University in Egypt will celebrate the inauguration of Professor Mohamed Lotfi as its 5th President this Saturday, on the 11th of December. 

The event will be attended by top country leaders including ministers, ambassadors, our board of trustees, as well as previous presidents and dignitaries from all around the world.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM at the university theatre and will be held in the presence of some of the most distinguished high profile attendees, including H.E. Professor Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Professor Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, H.E. Mohamed Saafan.

Minister of Manpower, Sir Magdi Yacoub, H.E. Professor Mostafa El Feki, H.E. Ambassador Gareth Bailey, British Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Mr. Marc Barety, French Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Mr. Ahmed El-Tazi, Moroccan Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Dr. Mohamadou Labarang, Cameroonian Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Mr. Dominic Goh, Singaporean Ambassador to Egypt, and Farida Mohamed Farid Khamis, Chair of the Board of Trustees will also attend the ceremony.

The inauguration ceremony will begin with a procession for the University’s Board of Trustees, a word from Farida Mohamed Farid Khamis, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and then a word from H.E. Professor Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and then finally the inauguration of our new president, followed by his inaugural speech.

Before he was appointed, Professor Loutfi held the post of the Vice-Chancellor’s Special Envoy at Coventry University, and throughout his career, he held several leadership roles as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Cardiff Metropolitan University and at the University of Sunderland, UK.

Loutfi is Ambassador (former council member) at the Observatory of Magna Charta Univeristatum of Fundamental University Values and Rights in Bologna, Vice-President of the Board of the Arab European Leadership Network in Higher Education ARELEN. He also worked with the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education as an International Associate and a member of the Reference Group for the Global Leadership Programme for Higher Education.

He instigated and coordinated partnerships with over 25 countries, some at the governmental level through building partnerships with universities in different countries and enhancing institutional cooperation in learning, teaching, and enterprise, and delivering programmes for university leaders to implement higher education reform and internationalization strategies.

He also worked on many EU projects for Higher Education Reforms and on Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Ukraine, Russia, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt. Also, he worked with the Ministries of Higher Education in Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Morocco to develop a framework for building capacity for leadership in Higher Education.

Throughout his academic career, Professor Loutfi holds a BSc in Economics and Political Science, an MSc in Information Technology, and a Ph.D. in Systems Thinking.

Moreover, he is a receptionist of a Professor of Internationalisation from Cardiff Metropolitan University, a visiting professor at Coventry University – UK, and a visiting Professor of Innovation and Globalisation at Eurasia University – China. In addition, he has 30 years of experience in Higher Education with extensive experience in universities’ leadership and management.
