British Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, confirmed that the extension of the ceasefire in Lebanon is a welcome step that paves the way for serious negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting peace.
Moreover, he emphasized that the diplomatic efforts exerted in this context represent tangible progress.
Cowell also called on all parties to seize this opportunity and fully commit to the terms of the ceasefire, contributing to de-escalation and creating the appropriate conditions for political solutions.
In a related context, Cowell expressed his concern regarding the Israeli army’s demolition of extensive civilian areas in southern Lebanon, stating that such actions undermine the ceasefire and must stop immediately.
He also stressed the necessity of adhering to International Humanitarian Law and ensuring the swift return of civilians to their homes.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed that reaching a long-term political settlement, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, remains essential for achieving stability and security for both Lebanon and Israel.
