The British Royal Air Force announced that the British and Swedish fighters intercepted an " Il-20" surveillance aircraft and a "Su-27" fighter of the Russian Aerospace Forces, according to TASS.

According to the RAF statement: “This evening, two Russian Aerospace Forces, EL-20 and SU-27 were intercepted by Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons and Swedish Gripen fighters, which were flying close to NATO and Swedish airspace."

"The Royal Air Force, from the 140th Infantry Wing, are currently participating in the NATO mission to operate the airspace of the Baltic States," the statement added.

The RAF stressed that the Russian pilots did not violate Swedish airspace, however, they did not comply with international standards and did not contact the relevant FIRs, but remained in international airspace and flew in a professional manner," the statement said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly confirmed that the flights of Russian military aircraft are carried out in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.
