“Sky News”, a space channel, reported that the British government plans to reduce the number of army personnel by 9,000, bringing the total number to 73,000, in order to save money.

The channel reported that Defense Secretary Ben Wallace "saved" 500  troopers from the firing out from the military.

Wallace is scheduled to focus on capabilities rather than numbers, as he conducts a comprehensive reform of the army, described as the largest "radical" restructuring of the army in Britain for more than 20 years.

And "Sky News" indicated that the army will witness greater reliance on robots, computers, and data, while it is expected to improve the capabilities of soldiers (women and men), with an increased focus on improving specialized skills, explaining that canceling the firing of 500 soldiers is equivalent to the conscripting of two "Ranger" battalions.

A senior defense source told Sky News that Wallace had previously said that "the size of the military does not depend on a number picked from the air, but on ambition and potential threat."

It is noteworthy that last March an earlier plan was announced to reduce the army's number to 72,500 by 2025 as part of a broader government review of defense, security, and foreign policy.
