The BRIT Awards 2021 took place at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday, amid the attendee of 4000 people gathered to celebrate the past 12 months of music.
British comedian Jack Whitehall hosted the ceremony, which opened with Coldplay performing their new single "Higher Power" from a pontoon on the River Thames. The ceremony also witnessed the performance by Dua Lipa, Arlo Parks, Headie One, and more.
The BRITs 2021 served as a government coronavirus pilot event, meaning that a scaled-back live audience taking part in the event without the need to wear masks or social distance, However, they all needed a negative coronavirus test.
The ceremony was the first major indoor and in-person music event in more than a year. Most of the tickets will go to key workers from London, alongside nominees and the representatives of the music industry.
Arlo Parks picked up the first prize of the night, winning this year’s Breakthrough Artist statue. Little Mix made history as the first female group to take home the Best British Group award.
As previously announced, Taylor Swift became the first female artist to receive the BRITs’ Global Icon, following in the footsteps of past winners such as David Bowie, Elton John, and Robbie Williams.
Moreover, Billie Eilish earned the trophy for Best International Female Solo Artist for the second year in a row, while Dua Lipa was named the Best Female Solo Artist.
