Brighton & Hove Albion have announced plans to build Europe’s first purpose-built stadium for women’s football, with a capacity of at least 10,000 seats and a target opening date for the 2030 to 2031 season.

The Premier League club confirmed that planning work is already underway for the proposed venue at Bennett’s Field, located next to the American Express Stadium.

The site was acquired in 2025 and will allow shared operations and facilities on matchdays for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Once completed, the stadium will become one of only three dedicated women’s football venues globally. It will join CPKC Stadium, home to the Kansas City Current, which opened in 2024 as the first purpose-built stadium for a professional women’s team, as well as a planned venue for the Denver Summit in the United States.

Brighton women’s managing director Zoe Johnson said the project represents a major step forward for the club’s ambitions, both domestically and in European competitions, while also helping to attract top talent and grow the fanbase.

The club added that the stadium will be specifically designed to meet the needs of women players, including tailored pitch standards, changing rooms, and recovery facilities, rather than adapting infrastructure originally built for the men’s game.

The announcement comes as clubs across England continue to elevate the women’s game, with Chelsea FC recently confirming that their women’s team will play all home matches at Stamford Bridge next season, following similar moves by Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Leicester City.
