Brighton & Hove Albion secured an impressive 2-1 win over Liverpool at the Amex Stadium, in a Matchday 31 fixture of the Premier League.
The home side made a strong start, taking the lead in the 14th minute through Danny Welbeck.
Liverpool responded in the 30th minute when Milos Kerkez found the equalizer, bringing the visitors back into the contest before halftime.
Brighton, however, regained control in the second half, with Welbeck striking again in the 56th minute to complete his brace and seal a crucial victory for his side.
Following the result, Liverpool remain in fifth place with 49 points, missing a key opportunity to break into the top four.
Meanwhile, Brighton move up to eighth place with 43 points, strengthening their push for a European spot.
The defeat continues a disappointing run for Liverpool, who have now dropped points in recent matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur, further complicating their bid for Champions League qualification.
Despite the presence of star forward Mohamed Salah, Liverpool were unable to capitalize on their chances, leaving their top-four hopes increasingly uncertain as the season enters its decisive stage.
