British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was detected with the coronavirus more than a week ago, was taken to a hospital Sunday for test.

According to BBC, the Prime minister has been hospitalised based on his doctor's advise.

"On the advice of his doctor, the prime minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests," a Downing Street spokeswoman said according to BBC.

The spokesman described the situations as a precautionary step.

"This is a precautionary step, as the prime minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus ten days after testing positive for the virus," the spokeswoman said.

Johnson confirmed the news in a video posted on Twitter, saying: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.”

He continued: “I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives”

His announcement had come days after Prince Charles was confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus.

It is worth mentioning that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared coronavirus a global pandemic on March 11 as the new virus has rapidly spread to more than 121,000 people from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.
